How to Draw an Elephant

How to Draw an Elephant, step by step

As we all know, elephant is one of the largest animals on the planet. Its large trunk, ears, and tusks are more difficult to recreate on paper than they might appear. The good news is an elephant's thick straight legs are relatively simply to draw, even easier than that of a Horse. In this lesson we will learn how to draw an elephant in # 2 pencil.

Step 1

How to Draw an Elephant, step 1

First, draw the basic outlines of the elephant's body. Draw a large circle in the middle of your sheet of paper. It will serve as a basis for the body of an elephant. On the right side add a small circle for the head. Next we will draw a curved line for the neck of the elephant. Then add two ovals for elephant's legs.

Step 2

Now you need to draw the general outline of the elephant's trunk. Draw a long curved line from head. It will serve as a basis for the trunk of an elephant. Leave the trunk for now and draw main contour of the belly and top part of the ear. At the end of this step draw two small ovals the other two legs of the elephant.

Step 3

Now we need to fully draw the outline of the elephant's legs. Start drawing by sketching four elongated oval. Add the small parts to these ovals - they will serve as the elephant foot. You can make one bent leg so you see in my drawing.

Step 4

Now we need to create a rough shape of an elephant. To do this, we add to our previously drawn tentative lines for the body, trunk and the feet of our animal. We must define the contours of each body part.

Step 5

In this step we will start to draw the elephant's head and trunk in detail. Finish working on the ear. Estimate the ear size such that it reaches the upper legs and occupies half of the elephant's body. Make the trunk more round. Add the eye in the middle of the head. Put a line connecting the eye to the trunk. From this line we draw tusks. Place a rounded crown of your elephant's head. Pay attention to the foot of an elephant and don't forget draw a tail.
Once you're almost finished with drawing the entire elephant step by step, draw the skin. In some places the elephant's skin has large wrinkles or small mesh.

Step 6

Now you will add varying shades to your drawing of an elephant. Darken the distant parts of the body and the feet of an elephant. Also, shading the joints on elephant's body parts will make your drawing more realistic.
